For teen clients, I do the first session just with the parents. This gives me a chance to get the parents perspective on their child’s needs and answer any questions about the process.
In the next session, I meet with the teen to understand his or her challenges and goals. At the end of this session, we bring the parents in and talk through the treatment plan.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by recurring unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions). People with OCD often feel compelled to perform these rituals to alleviate anxiety or prevent perceived harm, even though they may recognize them as irrational. OCD can significantly interfere with daily functioning and quality of life if left untreated.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) commonly used to treat anxiety disorders, particularly Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In ERP therapy, individuals are gradually exposed to anxiety-provoking situations or triggers, in a comfortable relaxed setting, while refraining from engaging in their typical compulsive behaviors or rituals.
The main goals of ERP therapy are to help individuals confront their fears, learn healthier ways of coping with anxiety, and break the cycle of avoidance and compulsions. By repeatedly exposing themselves to feared stimuli and resisting the urge to perform compulsive behaviors, individuals can gradually reduce their anxiety and gain a greater sense of control over their symptoms.
Benefits of ERP therapy include:
Reduction in Anxiety: ERP therapy helps individuals confront their fears and gradually reduce their anxiety responses over time.
Decrease in Compulsive Behaviors: By learning to resist the urge to engage in compulsions, individuals can reduce the frequency and intensity of their ritualistic behaviors.
Improved Quality of Life: As anxiety symptoms decrease and individuals gain mastery over their fears, they often experience improvements in their overall quality of life and functioning.
Long-Term Efficacy: Research has shown ERP therapy to be highly effective in treating OCD and other anxiety disorders, with lasting benefits even after treatment has ended.
Empowerment and Self-Efficacy: Through the process of confronting fears and learning to manage anxiety, individuals often develop a greater sense of empowerment and confidence in their ability to cope with challenging situations.
Overall, ERP therapy offers individuals a structured and evidence-based approach to overcoming anxiety and reclaiming their lives from the grip of obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress or perceived threats, but when it becomes excessive, persistent, and disrupts daily life, it may indicate an anxiety disorder. Symptoms can include excessive worrying, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, muscle tension, and sleep disturbances.
Consider seeking help from a psychologist if your anxiety:
Interferes with your daily functioning, relationships, or work.
Persists despite attempts to manage it on your own.
Causes significant distress or impairment in your life.
Is accompanied by physical symptoms or other mental health concerns.
A certified psychologist can provide assessment, therapy, and support tailored to your individual needs, helping you develop coping strategies and regain control over your anxiety.
